About Dr. Cardenas

Dr. Justin Cardenas is a fellowship-trained orthopaedic hip and knee surgeon specializing in hip and knee replacement procedures at Carrell Clinic.

A Dallas native, Dr. Cardenas attended Highland Park High School where he played football and started as a defensive back his senior year. He was a founding member of Iron Sharpens Iron, a Christian men’s bible study which is still active. Upon graduation, he was honored as the top male graduate with the National Honor Society Blue Blanket Award.

Dr. Cardenas continued his education at Texas A&M University in College Station, where he received his undergraduate in Biomedical Sciences. He served as the Director of The Big Event, which is the largest student led one-day service project in the country with over 20,000 student volunteers. He was a Maroon Coats donor liaison and member of the Aggie Men’s Club. For his leadership and involvement, he was awarded the Gates-Muller Leadership Award as one of the top students in the class of 7,000. He went on to attend medical school at Baylor College of Medicine, where he earned his Doctor of Medicine degree and was elected as the medical school class president. He stayed at Baylor College of Medicine to complete his orthopaedic surgery residency. Dr. Cardenas then returned to Dallas as he committed to a year as the inaugural fellow in hip and knee reconstruction at Carrell Clinic and has joined their clinic after fellowship.

Dr. Cardenas is a member of the American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons, and American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, and the Texas Orthopaedic Association. His clinical specialty is in reconstructive surgery to alleviate hip and knee pain and restore function. He prioritizes a conservative approach and turns to surgical methods only when necessary and enjoys the opportunity to connect with his patients on an individual level to make a lasting impact on their lives through treatment.

Married and the father of two, Dr. Cardenas is involved in his church at Grace Lake Highlands and enjoys spending time with his wife and sons, making memories through bike rides, camping, or playing on their makeshift backyard kid construction site.
